If you don't have Instacode, I would recommend getting that and using it to help you bridge the continental gap in information.

SN is generally short for "serial number" so I don't see how or where that comes into play.
INSTACODE SETUP WITH FUTURA CODE
The ISN is supposed to be a handy way of entering a 4 digit code which tells the machine which specific blank and code series it is going to cut. It's a temperamental key and the slightest miscalibration on your machine of choice will result in a key that probably won't even fully insert into a lock. We've always found that the HO01 is a good key to "learn" your machine with. You're just going to have to learn what techniques work for all of the keys you encounter and write them down.

There is no alternative software that I'm aware of, as that would mean the machine architecture and its software are open source and no manufacturer would ever agree to that. (They all look like Daft Punk helmets lol). You may have noticed that most new machines on the market today took their cues from the Futura. Those who stuck it out eventually learned to love the machine, as it was a revolutionary design at the time. We had a lot of people returning the original Futura when it first released, as they were unwilling to learn the domestic equivalents of a key's European counterpart. The Eurocentric database was my biggest issue with the original Futura and it would appear that this has continued with the Pro. How can I figure out which is the right one?ĭoesn't look like anyone wants to touch this so I'll take a stab at it. Sometimes I'll find 3 or more possibilities with the same card number, but three different ISN numbers. What's the ISN number? Is an SN number the same thing, or something different. the number of wafers, the possible depths of cut, where the key registers in the lock, etc. I've inferred that the "card" is the data about the key. I also do a fair amount of code cutting based on indirect code. My most common activity is decoding keys (it's very handy to have the direct code for "pinning" the plugs and the indirect code for future reference). My question is this: are there any alternative software interfaces that will work well with this machine and cars in the US market? I work exclusively with Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Nissan, and Mazda. I called Silca tech support and was advised to look the code series up in an Ilco catalog, then start by searching for the first number in the code series to get a list of cards, then eliminate the possibilities to find the right card. When pulling information up by year/make/model, I frequently get the wrong information or a complete omission of a model. The Silca database seems like it leans more to the European market cars, and I only work on US market cars.

Two questions: Is there a good alternate software, and what's an ISN number. However, I'm not a big fan of the software that comes with it. It seems like a really nice machine (although it's my first key cutter, so I have nothing to compare it to). I've been doing lock repair/recoding for about 8 years and just purchased my first key machine. I specialize in hybrids, but work on most Japanese cars. I'm an automotive mechanic and licensed locksmith.
